Understanding stand of India- Internationally
After India's decision to abstain from UN voting on Russia's invasions of Ukraine, the West was quite shocked and unhappy with India's decision. But, after the views of new German ambassador to India - Chinese aggression at the Line of actual control in Eastern Ladakh Philipp Ackermann, it seems that there has been a shift in understanding the India's perspective. This might be the beginning of comprehending the India's views in a coherent way. The German ambassador related Russia's invasion of Ukraine as an ''Indian problem''. This is because China's acts are very similar to Russia as they are claiming Arunachal Pradesh which is a clear violation. The maneuvers of China on the northern border are creating hostile situations which are a little alike to the Russia's invasions of Ukraine. The German ambassador even described some differences. Conversing with the Indian interlocutors led him to believe that India understands the need to maintain the international law and order. Recently, India voted against Russia to allow the Ukrainian presided to virtually address a meeting of UNSC. This action had a huge impact on the statements and beliefs of the German Ambassador. However, he remarked this as a progress in India's position. He although agreed that India even after abstaining the vote always stood for dialogue and diplomacy, and was in urgent cessation of violence. The ambassador also put some light on various topics like buying discounted crude oil from Russia, role of India in multilateral organizations and Germany's developing interest in Indo- Pacific (including the situation in Taiwan).
This whole conversation of German ambassador with Indian interlocutors indicates the beginning of the change in the views of the West regarding the India's position. It is quite obvious that when a nation takes a stand which is different from others, it takes some time for the others to absorb or digest or understand the new stand or perspective.
